Akolade Omishope Arrested

New Years day at approximately 10:15 a.m., CBP Field Operations officers met Akolade Omishope as he arrived at Detroit Metro Airport aboard a flight from Nigeria. Omishope, a 20-year-old Nigerian citizen and Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S., had been identified as the subject of an arrest warrant from the state of Kentucky for fraud. CBP officers confirmed the warrant information, detained Omishope and transported him to the Wayne County Jail to await extradition to Kentucky.

New Year’s Day at approximately 2 p.m., CBP Field Operations officers at the International Bridge in Sault Sainte Marie encountered Walter Vilistus, a 38-year-old U.S. citizen from Traverse City as he returned from Canada. While checking his identity officers found that he was the subject of arrest warrants in both Utah and Michigan. Vilistus was detained and turned over to officers from the Sault Sainte Marie Police Department for further processing.

New Year’s Day at approximately 9:45 p.m., CBP Field Operations officers at the Detroit Canada Tunnel in Detroit encountered a car, driven by a 30-year-old U.S. citizen from Northville. When the driver realized that he had been selected for further inspection he suddenly declared that he was carrying $4,000 into the country that he had won at the casino in Windsor. The driver produced the money he had declared but it then appeared to the officers that he was concealing something else in his pocket. Officers discovered an additional $25,291 in his pockets. The money was seized for failure to declare, a civil infraction, and the driver was allowed to continue his travel.
